Ali lost his house in a fire last Friday. His classmates decided to raise some money to help him. They put posters of a car wash. The teacher on duty also announced to all the .pupils and teachers.
On the day, his classmates came to wash the cars brought by the parents and teachers. One of them collected the money and put them in a box.
After a few hours, they stopped. They counted the money and then put it in an envelope. The next day, they visited Ali's family with their class teacher. They handed the money to them. Ali and his family were happy and grateful. They thanked the pupils for their effort.

One day, Halimah was walking home after school. Suddenly, a car stopped beside her. The man in the car asked for directions to a petrol station. As she was talking, the man tried to pull her into his car. She screamed her head off and hit the man.
Not far from there, a woman heard her scream. She ran towards Halimah. Seeing the woman coming, the man quickly let go of Halimah and drove off.
Halimah was in shock. She was lucky to be safe. Halimah thanked the woman. From that day onwards, she didn't walk home alone anymore.

Last Saturday morning, many people were at the park.
Some of the early birds were jogging while others were sitting and having a conversation.
A woman was jogging as usual. Suddenly, a man ran close to her and snatched her gold chain. The woman fell. She shouted for help.
Some of the joggers, who saw the incident, ran after the man. With the help of other joggers, they managed to catch him. One of them called the police.
Once the police arrived, they handed the thief to them.
The police thanked the joggers for their swift action in apprehending the thief.

Hanis was taking a bus home after school. Although it was crowded, she managed to get a seat.
She noticed a man who just boarded the bus was behaving suspiciously. He pushed his way and stood near an old woman. Suddenly, she noticed the man was putting his hand into the old woman's handbag. He slowly pulled out the purse without the woman realising.
Hanis shouted out to the other passengers. The man was caught red handed. They caught hold of the man until the police arrived. They handed the man to the police and continued their journey to their respective destinations.

The Present Continuous Tense
The present continuous tense is used to show an action that is still on going at the time of speaking.
The present continuous tense is formed with the subject plus the present particle form (-ing) of the main verb and the present continuous tense of the verb to be: am, is, are. 
Examples:
I am sweeping the floor.
The boy are playing football on the field.
She is watering the plants.
The pupils are reading books in the library.
They are having their meals.
He is swimming.
am singing at church today.

Present Continuous Tense also known as Present Progressive Tense expresses an action that is still ongoing or is in progress
It is used to express an action which is still continuing as we speak
Let us consider an example to understand it better.
Basic Form :
Present Continuous Tense mainly comprises of two parts:
(1) Present tense of the auxiliary verb “be” ,
(2) Present participle (-ing) form of the main or base verb.
Examples:
Ryan is dancing.
Joseph is swimming in the pool.
am visiting grandpa in the afternoon
She is sleeping.
am washing my T-shirt.
He is making tea.
It is always raining in London.
We are studying English grammar.
am running to the store. 

For actions happening now.
When we want to talk about an action that is happening now or at this time (and is unfinished), we use the present continuous tense.
We also use this tense when we want to make clear that the action is temporary.
Sorry, she can't come to the phone right now; she is having a bath.
The present continuous, also called the present progressive, is one of the present tenses used in modern English, the others being the simple present and the present perfect.
All of these can be employed in both the indicative and subjunctive moods.

You are watching TV.
Are you watching TV?
You are not watching TV.
You are learning English now.
You are not swimming now.
Are you sleeping?
am sitting.
am not standing.
Is he sitting or standing?
They are reading their books.
They are not watching television.
What are you doing?
Why aren't you doing your homework?

The Simple Past
The simple past tense is used to show an action that took place in the past.
With most verbs the past tense is formed by adding -ed:
call >>> called
like >>> liked
want >>> wanted
work >>> worked
open >>> opened
look >>> looked
But there are a lot of irregular past tenses in English.

There are two tenses in English – past and present.

We often use phrases with ago with the past tense:
met my wife a long time ago.



Some verbs in the past tense do not end in 'ed' or 'd’.
These verbs are known as irregular verbs.
